The Beacon on the upper village green, will be lit along with beacons across the country to celebrate the start of the Jubilee Weekend.

The village of Long Melford will get together on Sunday 5th June to celebrate in style the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.  Be sure to get there from 11.30am onwards to enjoy the float and procession of classic cars and Felix coaches. 

After lunch soak up the atmosphere with street entertainment, including live bands, jugglers, and fire eaters. There will also be a children’s face painter and pop-up bars.

Please note Hall Street will closed to traffic from 10:00am to 5:00pm from St Catherine’s Road up to the Bull Hotel. You can still access the Old School Car Park during this time from the Green end of the village and Bull Lane.

The Taste of Sudbury Food & Drink Festival

The Taste of Sudbury, is a fantastic annual event, traditionally held in the centre of Sudbury. It returns this summer after a two-year break due to the pandemic and will be hosted in a new venue, in the grounds of Melford Hall.

The festival will continue to be all about celebrating, promoting and showcasing the very best producers, restaurants and chefs that we are so lucky to have in this region and has had to temporary move to Melford Hall.

It is expected that over fifty stalls will be filling the grounds on June 18th selling a whole range of top quality produce including local beef and pork, freshly baked breads, cakes and pies, locally grown fruit including Suffolk strawberries and raspberries, locally distilled Suffolk gins, beautiful brownies and traybakes, Suffolk jams, marinades and conserves plus vegan pastries and much much more.

The fabulous main kitchen theatre will be back with an amazing line up of some of our region’s very best chefs and artisan producers who will be on stage plus there will be butchery masterclasses and baking demos too.

A number of quirky vans and horseboxes will be cooking up delicious street food and of course you’ll be able to sit and enjoy a pint of local craft ale or a glass of Suffolk Gin and Tonic too.

The festival will offer the families a great day out and dogs are very welcome.

Parking is free and there will also be a free Park and Ride scheme in place running from Sudbury.

We Are Handmade Summer Craft Fair

The We Are Handmade craft fairs will be returning to Long Melford for an 11th year, with their Summer fair taking place over four rooms in the characterful Old School. This fair will feature 40 makers and artists from the East Anglian region.

This event showcases quality handmade crafts, with makers selling a range of items to suit all pockets. Makers include Capricorn Crafts, makers of wooden toys and gifts; woodturner Glyn Hall; glass by the Little Lime Design Company; sculptures by The Happy Hare Co; Peter Deans Ceramics and Nanuk Jewellery. A full list of makers will be on their website a week before the event.

Please note that not all stallholders take card payments and so it is advisable to bring along some cash to the fairs.

There will be a refreshments available on the day provided by Zoe of Vintage & Cream Suffolk. In addition to lots of lovely cake, there will also be bacon and other sandwiches to choose from.

Entry is FREE and there is a large public car park next to the venue, for which for a donation is requested.
