On Saturday 9th October 2021, Suffolk, including Long Melford, will host Stage 6 of this year’s Women’s Tour cycle race. The business community and residents of Long Melford have been busy getting the village ready for the visitors expected to flock here to watch one of the Sprint sections on the final stage of the tour.
In line with the tour logo colours, businesses have been busy dressing their windows and premises. Bunting and flags are going up throughout the village and numerous decorated bikes have been appearing at different locations providing some great photo opportunities for residents and visitors. All reflecting the village’s adopted theme of ‘Pink, White & Bike.’
On the day those watching the race will be able to enjoy the numerous independent shops, tearooms, pubs and restaurants in the village, with many providing tour themed offers on the day alongside additional food and drink outlets being laid on. Stalls raising money for local community groups will be located throughout the village and live music will provide a backdrop to festivities.
On Policeman’s Green, near the Bull Hotel, a tandem static cycle ride will be taking place raising money for The Holy Trinity Church and Long Melford Primary School. Being organised by local business Fit with Sam B, people will take to bikes to cycle a distance of 155 km.
